A horse will always resort back to the foundation they were taught when they were young. That’s why Corazón works meticulously with all of their colts to ensure they have a foundation solid enough to last the their entire lives.

Christa has competed in multiple colt starting competitions, and has over 10 years of experience when it comes to starting colts. She has the incredible ability to turn even some of the feeliest and most stingy colts into willing and relaxed partners.

On the ground, her colts are taught to yield to pressure, when to move and when to stand still, personal space, focus, softness etc. Preparing them in the first couple sessions to accept a saddle. From there they will get their first couple rides in the round pen, but it’s not long before they are outside to encourage lots of forward movement. All the while Christa is building their confidence and helping them to trust their riders. We start with short consistent rides, gradually getting a little longer as the colts get stronger and more comfortable.

While in the saddle Christa ensures that all of her colts know how to move out freely, and move their feet in a coordinated manner, they are taught to be soft and follow their nose. Christa’s specialty is starting cowhorses, but she will accept colts bound for a variety of careers.

Christa takes a lot of pride in her colt starting program and she will always strive to ensure that every horse goes home with the foundation, confidence, and mindset to carry them through whatever discipline they are bound for.
